Project

Whistling Woods Film Institute

If seen from above, the building swirls into a sort of spiral, inspired by the panning movements of the motion picture camera. This motion, when combined with the ocular principle of persistence of vision, produces the illusion of movement. And movement, as a kinetic aesthetic is fundamental in terms of media attraction. Flowing into or from a central core, the form curves along the natural topography to maintain floor lines with the surrounding land terrain levels. Respecting the land profile, this curvilinear design adds an element of surprise in terms of surface visibility from the outside. The form itself predominates and to accentuate this presence, the building is kept modest.
